The movie opens with Aurora Teagarden attending the wedding reception of her cousin, Phillip, to his fiancé, Iris. The reception takes place at the mansion of the wealthy matriarch, Elanor Finster, who is not fond of Aurora's mother, Aida. Despite their differences, Aida is invited to the wedding reception and attends with Aurora.
During the reception, Elanor gets up to give a speech and suddenly collapses, foaming at the mouth. The guests immediately suspect poison and Elanor is rushed to the hospital, where she eventually passes away.
Aurora's mother, Aida, is devastated by Elanor's death, but is even more shocked to learn that she has been named as the primary beneficiary in Elanor's will, which is a surprise to both Aida and Elanor's own family members.
Aurora, who works as a librarian and also has a knack for solving mysteries, starts investigating Elanor's death, not only to clear her mother's name but also to find the real killer. As she digs deeper, she uncovers several suspects, including Elanor's estranged son, Philip's disillusioned sister, and Elanor's young caregiver.
Through her investigation, Aurora uncovers the motives and secrets of the various suspects and eventually uncovers the true killer, who had a surprising connection to Elanor's past. With the case solved, Aida is able to inherit her share of the estate.
