The movie Attack of the 50 Foot Woman was released in 1958 and directed by Nathan Juran. The film stars Allison Hayes as Nancy Archer, a wealthy woman who is trapped in an unhappy marriage with her philandering husband, Harry Archer (played by William Hudson).
One night while driving, Nancy encounters an alien spacecraft that causes her to grow to enormous size. Meanwhile, a traumatized Nancy's cheating husband and his mistress try to drug her to keep her locked up and out of sight. When Nancy awakens and learns of her husband's infidelity, she escapes and seeks revenge by rampaging through town.
While Nancy is wreaking havoc, a group of scientists tries to figure out how to stop her growth and save the town from total destruction. In the end, Nancy's immense size begins to take a toll on her health and she ultimately dies.
The film has been hailed as a classic B-movie and has since gained a cult following for its campy dialogue and special effects. The film has been remade several times, most notably in 1993 with Daryl Hannah playing the role of Nancy Archer.
