Brothers in Arms: A Reunion

Comedy  United States of America

At War with the Army is a 1950 American musical comedy film directed by Hal Walker and starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. The film follows the misadventures of two former nightclub partners, Alvin Korwin (Jerry Lewis) and Vic Puccinelli (Dean Martin), who are now serving in the military during World War II.

Sergeant Puccinelli is a ladies' man and a smooth talker, while Private First Class Korwin is nerdy and neurotic. They are stationed at a training base in the United States, where they run afoul of their drill sergeant, played by Mike Kellin, who is constantly exasperated by their antics.

As Puccinelli tries to get transferred overseas, he concocts a plan to fake an injury to get out of his current duties. Meanwhile, Korwin is desperate to see his wife and new baby, but is constantly thwarted in his attempts to get a pass.

The film features several musical numbers, including a rendition of "That's Amore" by Martin, as well as comic set pieces that showcase Lewis's signature physical comedy.

At War with the Army was the first film to feature Martin and Lewis in leading roles, and was a box office success, grossing over $3 million. The film was followed by several more collaborations between the two stars, including Sailor Beware and The Caddy.
