The movie At Close Range follows Brad Whitewood Jr. (played by Sean Penn), a rebellious teenager who is estranged from his father and his family. Brad's life takes a dangerous turn when his father's criminal activities start to involve him and his friends. Brad's father, Brad Whitewood Sr. (played by Christopher Walken), is the leader of a gang that specializes in stealing goods and reselling them for profit.
As Brad becomes more involved in his father's criminal activities, he also begins to reconnect with his family, including his half-brothers, Tommy and Stevie. However, tensions between the brothers rise as they struggle for power and control within the gang. Meanwhile, Brad falls in love with Terry, a girl from a nearby town, and tries to distance himself from the criminal life he once embraced.
The situation comes to a head when the gang's violent tendencies spiral out of control, leading to a brutal murder. Brad is faced with a choice: to continue living a life of crime or to turn his back on his family and testify against them.
