Asylum is a 2005 psychological thriller film directed by David Mackenzie and starring Natasha Richardson, Marton Csokas, and Ian McKellen. The film is based on the novel by Patrick McGrath.

The story follows Stella Raphael (Natasha Richardson), the wife of respected psychiatrist Dr. Max Raphael (Hugh Bonneville). Stella becomes intrigued with one of her husband's patients, Edgar Stark (Marton Csokas), a convicted murderer who is being treated for his mental illness. He killed his wife because she had an affair, and he disfigured her face.

Despite her husband's warnings, Stella begins to form a relationship with Edgar and begins to question her own sanity. The two of them begin a dangerous and illicit affair, but Max discovers their relationship and is determined to put a stop to it.
