The movie takes place in ancient Egypt, where Julius Caesar has sent his trusted lieutenant, architect Numerobis, to build a palace for him. However, Cleopatra challenges Julius Caesar to a bet that her people are still great and can build a palace within three months. If she loses, she will cede Egypt to Caesar; if she wins, Caesar must fall on his knees before her.
To win the bet, Cleopatra turns to Edifis, a bumbling architect who is known for his inability to complete projects on time. The queen orders Edifis to build the palace in just three months, or risk being fed to the crocodiles. Edifis, in turn, enlists the help of his old friend Getafix, the druid from Gaul who possesses a potion that gives its drinker immense strength.
With Asterix and Obelix in tow, Getafix arrives in Egypt and begins brewing his potion. However, Caesar gets wind of the project and sends troops to sabotage the construction site. Despite their efforts, Edifis, who is motivated by his love for the beautiful Egyptian queen, manages to complete the palace in time.
On the day of the palace's unveiling, Caesar discovers that he has lost the bet and falls on his knees to Cleopatra. However, they are interrupted by a group of pirates who demand ransom for Asterix and Obelix. In a final showdown, the Gauls once again prove their strength and combat skills, defeating the pirates and restoring order to Egypt.
Throughout the movie, Asterix and Obelix provide comedic relief with their antics, while Getafix and Edifis showcase their ingenuity and determination despite facing overwhelming odds. The film ultimately celebrates the enduring legacy of ancient Egypt while poking fun at the excesses of emperors and the absurdity of sporting bets.
