Assassins is a 1995 action thriller directed by Richard Donner and starring Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore. The film follows Robert Rath, a skilled assassin who is nearing retirement but is forced to take on one last job to repay a debt. The mark is a wealthy industrialist named Alan Branch who is being protected by a team of bodyguards.
Rath tracks Branch to a funeral, but before he can take the shot, he is interrupted by a young hitman named Miguel Bain. Bain kills Branch and several innocent bystanders before escaping. Disgusted by the carnage he witnessed, Rath decides to retire from the profession. However, he soon learns that Bain has been hired by a rival company to kill him.
Meanwhile, Rath meets a hacker named Electra who has been hired to retrieve information from Branch's computer. When Rath discovers that Electra is the next target on Bain's list, he decides to protect her. The two escape to a remote island where they start to develop a romantic relationship.
Bain tracks them down and the final confrontation takes place on a high-speed train through the mountains. Rath and Bain engage in a violent fight while Electra attempts to upload the stolen information to the internet. In the end, Rath kills Bain and destroys the computer, sacrificing his payday to protect his newfound love.
Assassins received mixed reviews from critics but was a moderate box office success, grossing over $83 million worldwide. The film is known for its all-star cast, high-octane action sequences and suspenseful plot.
