Bobby Funke is a high school student who dreams of becoming a journalist. When the SAT exams are stolen from the principal's office, the school administration suspects an inside job and turns to Bobby for help in tracking down the perpetrator.
Bobby takes on the case and begins investigating the theft. He soon discovers that the prime suspect is Paul Moore, the popular class president. Bobby decides to write an article accusing Paul of the crime, hoping to earn the respect of his peers and impress his journalism teacher.
However, Bobby's exposé quickly backfires when Paul denies the allegations and his reputation is ruined. Bobby realizes that he was wrong about Paul and sets out to clear the student's name.
Through his investigation, Bobby teams up with Francesca, Paul's girlfriend, who helps him uncover the truth about the theft. Together, they discover that the true culprit is the school's corrupt guidance counselor, who had stolen the exams to secure funding for the school's struggling football program.
Bobby and Francesca present their findings to the school administration and the guidance counselor is arrested. Paul's name is cleared and Bobby learns the value of responsible journalism and the importance of doing the right thing, even if it means admitting to his mistakes.
