In the first part, "Spring," Ouyang Feng is visited by an old friend, Huang Yaoshi, who is in love with the beautiful woman Murong Yin and wants to find a way to win her love. Ouyang agrees to help him and sends him to meet with Murong Yin, but not before warning him that love is a dangerous game.
In the second part, "Summer," Ouyang is visited by a swordsman named Hong Qi, who wants to eliminate a man named Murong Yang. Hong Qi is skilled in his art, but seems to be troubled by something from his past. Ouyang agrees to help him and sends him on his mission.
In the third part, "Fall," Ouyang is visited by a blind swordsman named Ouqiu Shang, who wants to learn a special technique that can only be taught by someone who has lost everything. Ouyang agrees to teach him the technique and in the process learns that Ouqiu Shang has a deep connection to his own past.
In the fourth part, "Winter," Ouyang is visited by Murong Yin, who is seeking revenge against Huang Yaoshi for betraying her. Ouyang agrees to help her and sends her to meet with Huang, but not before warning her that revenge is a bitter pill to swallow.
In the fifth and final part, "Epilogue," Ouyang reflects on his life and his choices, and wonders if he has made the right decisions. He is visited by an old friend, who brings him news that both Huang Yaoshi and Ouqiu Shang have died. Ouyang realizes that he has lost everything that he cared about and is left alone to face his regrets.
