As Good as Dead follows the story of Tom, a retired cop living in self-imposed witness protection in Mexico. Tom had testified against a dangerous cartel boss in a high-profile case in the United States, and he was given a new identity and moved to Mexico with his wife Carla.
Tom has been teaching martial arts to a young apprentice named Miguel, and the two of them become close friends. However, one night, while Miguel is fighting in a local underground club, someone records a video of the fight and it goes viral on social media. The video catches the attention of the cartel boss that Tom had testified against, who sees Miguel's fighting skills as a threat and decides to come after him.
