The movie Artists and Models follows the lives of Eugene and Rick, two struggling artists who live in a run-down apartment in New York City. Eugene is a comic book fanatic who spends most of his time holed up in their apartment, reading and collecting pulp fiction comic books. Rick, on the other hand, is a struggling writer who is desperately trying to come up with an original storyline for his own comic book series.
One day, Rick discovers that Eugene's wild and vivid dreams are the perfect source of inspiration for his comic books. Eugene has nightmares about bizarre characters and fantastical adventures, all of which would make for excellent comic book material. Rick begins to secretly record Eugene's dreams and uses them as the basis for his own comic books.
However, Eugene soon catches on to Rick's scheme and becomes extremely upset. He feels violated by the fact that Rick is using his personal experiences for profit. The two friends begin to argue, and their friendship starts to disintegrate. Eugene feels that Rick has betrayed him, while Rick believes that Eugene is being selfish and short-sighted.
As tensions between the two artists continue to mount, they both become more and more obsessed with their respective projects. Eugene delves deeper into the world of pulp fiction comic books, while Rick becomes more focused on bringing his comic book series to life. In the end, both artists learn valuable lessons about friendship, ethics, and the true nature of art and inspiration.
