However, Miller's political views and associations with left-wing organizations drew scrutiny from the US government during the McCarthy Era, leading to his being subpoenaed by the House Un-American Activities Committee.
Miller's personal life was also marked by drama and tragedy. His marriage to actress Marilyn Monroe was widely publicized and ultimately ended in divorce, and he struggled with the loss of his son Daniel in 2002.
