In Army of Darkness, the man in question is Ash Williams, played by Bruce Campbell. He is transported back in time while working at his job as a stock boy at a department store. When he arrives in 1300 A.D., he is mistaken for a hero prophesized to save the kingdom from the deadite army. Ash reluctantly agrees to help, hoping that it will help him find a way back to his own time.
As Ash goes on his quest to retrieve the Necronomicon, he battles an army of the dead that has been unleashed by the evil sorcerer, Lord Arthur. Along the way, he meets a variety of characters, including the wise wizard, the beautiful princess, and the brash warriors of Lord Arthur's army.
Ash's quest takes him to the ancient ruins of a castle, where he believes the Necronomicon is hidden. There, he battles the evil dead with his trusty shotgun, chainsaw, and his wits.
