The movie Armageddon is a science fiction disaster film directed by Michael Bay and released in 1998. The film stars Bruce Willis as Harry Stamper, a skilled oil driller who is recruited by NASA to lead a team of drillers and astronauts on a mission to stop an asteroid from colliding with Earth.

The asteroid, named "Dottie" by the NASA staff, is said to be the size of Texas and traveling at a speed of 22,000 miles per hour. The only way to save the planet from destruction is to drill a hole into the asteroid's surface and detonate a nuclear bomb to split it into two pieces, which would then fly past Earth harmlessly.

Harry is reluctant to participate in the mission at first, but changes his mind when he learns that his estranged daughter Grace (played by Liv Tyler) is working as a member of the NASA team. Harry insists on bringing his own team of drillers, which includes his protégé A.J. Frost (played by Ben Affleck), who is also involved in a romantic relationship with Grace.

Once in space, the team faces numerous challenges in their attempt to reach the asteroid, including a malfunctioning drill and a communication breakdown with NASA. As they struggle to overcome these obstacles, tensions rise among the crew, with Harry and A.J. butting heads over their different approaches to the mission.

Eventually, the team is able to successfully drill into the asteroid and detonate the bomb, saving the planet from impending doom. However, not all of the crew members make it back to Earth alive, and Harry sacrifices himself to ensure that the mission is successful and his daughter can return home safely.

In addition to Willis, Tyler, and Affleck, the movie features a star-studded cast including Billy Bob Thornton, Steve Buscemi, and Liv Tyler's real-life father Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, who also provides music for the film's soundtrack. Despite mixed reviews from critics, Armageddon was a commercial success, grossing over $553 million worldwide and becoming one of the highest-grossing films of 1998.
