In the film, Cassie Fowler (played by Rosemarie DeWitt) is a divorced mother living in a suburban Arizona community hit hard by the housing crisis. She works as a real estate agent but is struggling to make ends meet. One day, while showing a foreclosed home to a client, she witnesses the murder of her real estate office boss by a disgruntled former client.
Panicked and afraid for her life, Cassie initially tries to keep the incident to herself. However, things quickly spiral out of control as she becomes embroiled in a web of deceit and corruption. To make matters worse, the killer knows who she is and begins to hunt her down.
As Cassie attempts to protect herself and her young daughter, she becomes increasingly desperate and reckless. Along the way, she crosses paths with a quirky and unstable local character named Sonny (played by Danny McBride) who tries to help her but ultimately proves to be more of a hindrance than a help.
The film mixes elements of dark comedy and thriller, with a pointed commentary on the greed and desperation that fueled the housing crisis. It also touches on themes of motherhood, survival, and the power dynamics between men and women in a violent world.
