The movie Ariel, directed by Aki Kaurismäki, follows Taisto Kasurinen's journey as he attempts to start a new life after escaping from prison for a crime he didn't commit. Taisto is a humble and hardworking coal miner who becomes overwhelmed with grief after his father's suicide. He sees no future for himself in Finland and decides to escape to Sweden to start a new life.
Taisto's journey is far from smooth sailing. He is forced to work odd jobs on the way to Sweden to make ends meet. At one point, he even becomes a cause célèbre after he saves a young boy from drowning. However, Taisto's dream of starting a new life in Sweden is not meant to be. When he arrives in Sweden, he finds that the reality of the situation is far from his expectations.
Taisto is forced to take a cleaning job and live in a run-down housing project. He is unable to find meaningful work and is marginalized by his new community. Taisto realizes that his dream of starting a new life is not what he thought it would be. He eventually returns to Finland, where he is caught and sent back to prison.
The movie Ariel is a gritty and realistic portrait of a man's struggle to find meaning and purpose in his life. It is a commentary on the harsh realities of our modern society and the struggles that working-class people face in their daily lives. Despite the hardships that Taisto goes through, the movie ends on a hopeful note, as he sees the possibility of a better tomorrow.
