The movie Argo is based on a true story that took place during the Iranian Revolution of 1979. As the U.S. embassy in Tehran is overtaken by Iranian militants, six American embassy employees manage to escape and find refuge at the Canadian ambassador's house.
The CIA assigns an exfiltration specialist named Tony Mendez (played by Ben Affleck) to come up with a plan to get the Americans out of Iran. After considering several options, Mendez decides to pretend that the six Americans are part of a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a science fiction movie called Argo. He travels to Hollywood and enlists the help of a makeup artist and a producer to create a fake movie production company and produce a script for Argo.
Mendez then enters Iran posing as a Canadian film producer and works with the six Americans to teach them their covers as members of the film crew. They make their way to the airport, but encounter difficulties when the Iranian authorities become suspicious of their identities. Through quick thinking on Mendez's part and the team's cooperation, they manage to board their flight back to the U.S. with the help of the Canadian government.
The movie Argo won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Picture, and was praised for its tense and thrilling plot, historical accuracy, and strong performances from its cast.
