In Are We There Yet?, Nick (played by Ice Cube) is a successful bachelor who enjoys his freedom and the ability to date multiple women. Suzanne (played by Nia Long) is a divorced mother of two who is wary of dating after a difficult divorce. When Nick and Suzanne meet, they hit it off immediately, and Nick agrees to take Suzanne's children, Lindsay and Kevin, to Vancouver for New Year's Eve so they can spend time with their mother.
The kids are initially resistant to Nick and see him as just another one of their mother’s boyfriends. They devise a plan to make Nick's journey to Vancouver as difficult as possible. Along the way, they play pranks on him, get him lost in the wilderness, and even destroy his expensive car. Despite all of this, Nick remains determined to get the kids to Vancouver in time for New Year's Eve.
As they continue their journey, Nick and Suzanne begin to develop feelings for each other, but their relationship is threatened by the challenges posed by the kids. Once they arrive in Vancouver, Nick faces a final test when the kids get lost in the city and he has to find them before the stroke of midnight.
