Arctic is a 2018 survival drama film directed by Joe Penna and written by Penna and Ryan Morrison. The film stars Mads Mikkelsen as Overgard, a man who gets stranded in the Arctic Circle after his plane crashes. Overgard has managed to survive in the harsh conditions by relying on his wits, skills, and some basic supplies found in the plane wreckage. He has been sending distress signals for almost a year, hoping for a rescue.
The film starts with Overgard getting ready to leave his campsite, as he has finally seen a helicopter in the distance. He knows that this might be his chance to leave the Arctic and go back home to his family. However, in a dramatic turn of events, the helicopter crashes, leaving Overgard alone with a severely injured pilot. Overgard takes care of the pilot, but he knows that without help, the man will eventually die.
Overgard then faces a difficult decision: whether to wait for another rescue that may never come, or take matters into his own hands and embark on a dangerous trek across the Arctic in order to bring the pilot to safety. The journey is perilous, as Overgard has to navigate through treacherous terrain, fend off wild animals, and battle against the elements.
Despite the many obstacles he faces, Overgard never gives up hope. He remains resourceful and determined, and his unwavering spirit is a testament to the human will to survive. The film ultimately poses questions about the limits of human endurance, and what we are willing to do in order to survive in the face of adversity.
