The movie April Fool's Day was released in 1986 and was directed by Fred Walton. It starred a young cast, including Deborah Foreman, Amy Steel, Ken Olandt, and Thomas F. Wilson.

The film's plot follows nine college friends who are invited to a party on a secluded island by their wealthy classmates, Kit and Rob. The group includes Muffy, the hostess' cousin, who appears to be hiding something from the others.

As the night goes on, strange occurrences begin to happen, such as pranks played on the guests and mysterious disappearances of some members of the group. It is revealed that Muffy had planned the entire weekend as an elaborate prank, and that the disappearance of her guests was just that - a joke.

But just as the group begins to relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend, tragedy strikes when one of them falls off the balcony and dies. The film then cuts to a year later, where the remaining friends are being targeted and hunted down by a killer, wearing a harlequin mask, who seems to know their deepest secrets and fears.

The group must band together to try and survive the night, while also unraveling the truth behind Muffy's prank and the identity of the killer.

April Fool's Day was a commercial success upon release, grossing over $12 million in North America alone. It has since become a cult classic among horror fans and is notable for its subversion of the slasher genre's tropes and conventions.
