Drama,Comedy,Romance  United States of America

Anywhere But Here is a 1999 comedy-drama film directed by Wayne Wang and starring Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman. The film follows the life of a flamboyant and impulsive single mother, Adele August, who moves with her teenage daughter, Ann to Beverly Hills to pursue her dreams of Hollywood stardom. Ann is initially apprehensive about the move but agrees to go with her mother.

Once they arrive in Beverly Hills, they move into a motel where they struggle to find a place to live. Adele secures a job as a real estate agent, but her dishonest practices lead to her getting fired. Meanwhile, Ann, who is a straight-A student, focuses on her studies and tries to fit into her new school.

The relationship between Adele and Ann becomes strained over time due to Adele's impulsive nature and inability to handle money. Adele becomes involved in a volatile relationship with a married man, causing further tension in the family.

Despite all the challenges, Adele and Ann eventually find a place to live and begin to rebuild their relationship. Adele also gets a chance to fulfill her Hollywood dreams, albeit on a smaller scale, when she auditions for a commercial and gets the role.

The film received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising Sarandon and Portman's performances, while others found the film unconvincing. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a moderate success at the box office, grossing over $18 million worldwide.
