Antboy is a 2013 Danish superhero film directed by Ask Hasselbalch and written by Anders Ølholm based on the books by Kenneth Bøgh Andersen. It stars Oscar Dietz, Nicolas Bro, Amalie Kruse Jensen, Samuel Ting Graf, Lærke Winther Andersen, and Cecilie Alstrup Tarp. The film was produced by Nimbus Film in cooperation with Executive Producer Eva Jakobsen.
The movie begins with Pelle, a 12-year-old boy who gets bitten by an ant while on a field trip with his class. The mysterious substance injected into his body gives him superhuman strength and the ability to climb walls. He shares his newfound abilities with his best friend Wilhelm, who is a comic book nerd and is more than excited to help Pelle create a superhero alter-ego.
Thus, Antboy is born. Pelle's secret superhero identity is kept hidden from his parents and the rest of the world. He becomes a local hero in the community as he uses his powers to fight bullies and help those in need. However, things take a dangerous turn when a supervillain named Flea appears on the scene, causing chaos in the city.
Flea is a mad scientist who has been experimenting with the same ant substance that gave Pelle his powers. He transforms himself into a humanoid flea and sets out to cause destruction in the city. Antboy must now step up to stop Flea before he can do any more harm.
The movie is a coming-of-age story that deals with issues like friendship, bullying, and the importance of doing the right thing. It balances comedy, action, and drama to create a unique and enjoyable superhero film. The film's sequel, Antboy: Revenge of the Red Fury, was released in 2014.
