Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day - The Movie is a sequel to the anime series Anohana. The movie begins one year after the events of the series. The protagonist, Jinta Yadomi, is living his life as a recluse, haunted by his past memories of Menma, his childhood friend who passed away. Suddenly, Menma's ghost appears before Jinta and reminds him of a promise they made as kids. Menma wishes to grant a wish, but in order to do so, she needs the collective help of the Super Peace Busters, their group of childhood friends.
The group of friends, who had drifted apart after Menma's death, reunite and decide to help grant Menma's wish, but they struggle to figure out what it is. Each member of the group writes a letter to Menma, sharing their memories and feelings. Through these letters, they are able to confront their own personal issues and come to terms with the pain of their friend's passing.
As they work together to grant Menma's wish, their bonds are reignited and they learn to move on from their grief, ultimately leading to a heartwarming and bittersweet conclusion. Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day - The Movie explores themes of loss, grief, and friendship, and serves as a beautiful continuation of the Anohana story.
