Harry Ho is an unpaid writer who is struggling to make ends meet. He loves his girlfriend, Anita, and he wants to propose to her on her 30th birthday. However, Anita's parents have never met Harry, and they are not pleased that their daughter is dating an unemployed writer.
Anita's traditional Chinese parents want their daughter to marry a successful Chinese doctor, and they plan to introduce her to one during her birthday celebration in Las Vegas. As soon as Anita's parents meet Harry, they are convinced that he is not good enough for their daughter.
