on the plot and characters.

The movie Animals, directed by Nabil Ayouch, tells the story of Brahim (played by Hamza Mekdad), a young man struggling to come to terms with his sexuality in a conservative Moroccan society. Brahim is deeply conflicted about his desires, torn between his love for his family and his need to live authentically.

As the film begins, Brahim is preparing for his mother's birthday party. He is anxious about the gathering, knowing that his family will expect him to marry and start a family soon. At the party, tensions reach a boiling point when his extended family begins to ask him why he isn't dating anyone, and why he hasn't married yet. Brahim becomes increasingly uncomfortable and realizes that he cannot continue living a lie.

Feeling suffocated and oppressed, Brahim leaves the party and ventures out into the night. He encounters a group of young men who attack him, leaving him in critical condition. Brahim survives the attack but is left traumatized by his experience.

After his recovery, Brahim becomes determined to live life on his own terms, despite the societal pressures and homophobia he faces. He begins to explore his sexuality and forms a deep connection with a young man named Salim (played by Abdellah Didane). Their relationship blossoms in secret, but Brahim knows that he cannot keep it hidden forever.

As the film reaches its climax, Brahim must confront his family and reveal his true self, risking rejection and abandonment in the process. The film is a powerful exploration of identity, repression, and the human spirit's resilience, even in the face of adversity.
