The self-centered realtor, named Oren Little, is played by actor Michael Douglas. He is a widower who is trying to sell his valuable home in order to retire comfortably. However, his plans are interrupted when his estranged son suddenly drops off his 9-year-old daughter, Sarah, at his doorstep and leaves for a six-month stint in prison.
Oren has no experience with children and has no interest in taking care of Sarah. He tries to pass her off to her mother, who is a recovering drug addict, but she is unable to care for her. Oren's only solution is to ask for help from his kind-hearted neighbor, Leah, played by actress Diane Keaton.
Despite initial tensions between the two, Leah agrees to help Oren take care of Sarah while he tries to figure out what to do with her. As they spend more time together, Oren begins to warm up to Sarah and form a bond with her. He also starts to see Leah in a new light and realizes his feelings for her.
The movie, directed by Rob Reiner, is a heartwarming comedy-drama that explores the themes of family, love, and redemption. Along with Douglas and Keaton, the cast includes Sterling Jerins as Sarah, Frankie Valli as Oren's friend and client, and Scott Shepherd as Oren's estranged son.
