...And God Created Woman is a 1956 French drama film directed by Roger Vadim. The film stars Brigitte Bardot in the role of Juliette Hardy, a sexually liberated young woman who stirs up trouble in a small coastal town. Juliette has a reputation as a promiscuous woman, and her wild ways have earned her the nickname "town tramp". Despite this, she is desired by many men, including Antoine Tardieu, a young engineer who is working on a bridge project in the town.
Antoine is initially hesitant to get involved with Juliette, as he is concerned about what his friends will think. However, he cannot resist her charms and the two begin a passionate affair. Juliette enjoys the attention she receives from Antoine, but also longs for him to commit to her and marry her. She becomes jealous when Antoine spends time with other women and begins to act out, causing tension between them.
As the tension between Juliette and Antoine grows, the other men in the town become more aggressive in their pursuit of her. One man, Eric Carradine, a wealthy playboy and friend of Antoine's, becomes particularly fixated on Juliette and offers to take her away from the town. Juliette considers his offer, but ultimately decides to stay and pursue her relationship with Antoine.
The film's themes of sexual liberation and societal judgment caused controversy upon its release and made Bardot an international icon of sexual freedom. The film was remade twice, once in 1988 and again in 2018.
