Anchors Aweigh is a 1945 musical comedy film directed by George Sidney. It stars Frank Sinatra as sailor Joe, Gene Kelly as sailor Clarence, and Kathryn Grayson as the girl with musical aspirations, named Susan. It also features José Iturbi as himself.
The film follows the two sailors as they try to find a girl for Clarence to date during their four days of shore leave in Los Angeles. They come across Susan, a talented singer who dreams of performing at the Hollywood Bowl. Clarence promises to help her achieve her dreams by getting her an audition with José Iturbi, a famous conductor.
As they spend more time with Susan, Joe begins to develop feelings for her. This complicates their friendship and their mission to help Susan achieve her dreams. However, when Clarence falls ill, Joe steps in to help Susan make her audition with Iturbi a success.
