In the film Anaconda, the National Geographic film crew consists of director Terri Flores (Jennifer Lopez), cameraman Danny Rich (Ice Cube), sound recording engineer Gary Dixon (Owen Wilson), production assistant Denise Kalberg (Kari Wuhrer), and anthropologist Dr. Steven Cale (Eric Stolz). They are led by boat captain Mateo (Vincent Castellanos) down the Amazon River in search of a remote tribe.

Along the way, they come across a stranded man named Paul Serone (Jon Voight), who claims to be a riverboat captain in need of assistance. The crew agrees to take him aboard, but soon discovers that Serone's true motives are to capture the world's largest anaconda snake for profit.

Serone becomes increasingly unstable as he leads the crew into dangerous and uncharted territory, putting them all in harm's way. The group also encounters hostile local tribes and other dangerous wildlife while on their quest to catch the massive snake.

As the group reaches their destination, they are betrayed by Serone, who sacrifices his fellow crew members in order to capture the snake. In the end, only Terri and Danny manage to survive and defeat Serone and the giant anaconda, escaping back to civilization.

Anaconda was released in 1997 and became a box office success, grossing over $136 million worldwide. The film's success spawned sequels and became a cult classic in the horror/thriller genre.
