"An Inspector Calls" is a British thriller film adapted from the play of the same name by J.B. Priestley. The film is set in the fictional English city of Brumley in 1912, where the wealthy Birling family is celebrating their daughter Sheila's engagement to Gerald Croft, the son of a rival manufacturer.

The dinner is interrupted when Inspector Goole arrives, claiming that a young woman named Eva Smith has committed suicide by drinking disinfectant. While the family members initially deny any connection to the victim, Inspector Goole begins to unravel the truth.

As he interrogates each member of the family, Inspector Goole reveals that they all had a role in driving Eva to her death. Sheila had previously got Eva fired from her job, Mr. Birling refused to give her a raise, and Gerald had an affair with her before abandoning her. Even Mrs. Birling, who was supposed to help Eva when she came to the Women's Charity Organization, had refused her assistance.

As the truth slowly unfolds, the family members turn on each other, revealing their own selfish and callous attitudes towards the lower classes. The movie highlights the idea that individuals must take responsibility for their actions and that even the wealthiest among us cannot escape the consequences of our actions.

The film was directed by Aisling Walsh and starred David Thewlis, Miranda Richardson, and Ken Stott. It has received critical acclaim for its powerful performances and exploration of classism and responsibility.
