In the movie, David and Jack, two American college students, are backpacking across England when they stop at a small village called East Proctor. While there, they are warned to stay on the roads and avoid the moors as there have been reports of a vicious creature attacking locals.
Despite the warnings, David and Jack venture out onto the moors at night and are attacked by a werewolf. Jack is killed, but David survives and is taken to a hospital in London. As he recovers, he begins to experience strange and disturbing visions.
David soon realizes that he is turning into a werewolf and seeks help from a doctor and a werewolf hunter named Dr. Hirsch. However, none of the locals, including the doctor and police, believe in werewolves and think that David is suffering from a mental illness.
As the full moon approaches, David's transformation into a werewolf becomes more and more uncontrollable, leading to a bloody and gruesome climax in the streets of London.
An American Werewolf in London is known for its groundbreaking special effects, particularly the transformation scene, which won an Academy Award for Best Makeup. The film also features a memorable soundtrack, including the popular song "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.
