The movie revolves around McKenna Brooks (played by Jade Pettyjohn), a 4th-grade student who aspires to become a gymnast. She trains regularly under the guidance of her coach, but constantly struggles to balance her academics and training. Her teacher, Mrs. Brooks (played by Nia Vardalos), who is also her mother, is concerned about McKenna's progress at school and her declining grades.
McKenna's father, Mr. Brooks (played by Ian Ziering), is an author who is busy writing a new book. He is supportive of McKenna's gymnastics aspirations but also wants her to prioritize her education. McKenna's best friend, Toulane Thomas (played by Kally Berard), is also a gymnast and is jealous of McKenna's skills.
When McKenna suffers an injury during training, she starts to lose her confidence and fears she won't be able to compete in the regional championships. With the help of her family and friends, she overcomes her fears and eventually competes in the championships, giving her all in her routines.
