An Acceptable Loss is a 2019 political thriller starring Tika Sumpter as Elizabeth "Libby" Lamm, a former national security adviser who is forced to confront her past when she takes a teaching position at a small university. Her troubled history includes being involved in a plan to justify the invasion of Iraq, which resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians.
Rachel Burke, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, is a powerful political figure who was also involved in the Iraq War plan. She blackmails Libby into not publishing her memoir, which exposes their illegal actions during the war. Adrian, played by Ben Tavassoli, is Rachel's loyal chief of staff who will do anything to protect her, including threatening Libby's life.
As Libby struggles to come to terms with her past and the consequences of her actions, she starts to suspect that someone is following her and that her life is in danger. She turns to Martin, played by Jeff Hephner, for help, only to find out that he is obsessed with her and has been spying on her for Rachel.
The movie is a thought-provoking exploration of the morality of war and the consequences of political manipulation and power. It also touches on themes of regret, redemption, and the cost of speaking out against authority.
