Sam is a veteran struggling to adjust to civilian life in New York City. He feels disconnected from society and his family, and finds solace in spending time with Bassam and his family. However, when Charlie asks him to help with his illegal financial scheme, Sam is torn between his desire to help his cousin and his sense of morality.
Amira, on the other hand, is a young woman from Iraq who is trying to make a new life for herself in America. She is initially hostile to Sam, but as they spend more time together she begins to see him as a kind and caring person. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that Amira is undocumented and faces the constant threat of deportation.
As Sam and Amira navigate their feelings for each other, they are also forced to confront the realities of their respective situations. Sam must decide whether to remain loyal to his cousin or betray him for the sake of doing what is right. Amira, meanwhile, must confront the possibility of being separated from her newfound love and the life she has built in America.
