American Gigolo is a 1980s neo-noir film directed by Paul Schrader and starring Richard Gere as Julian Kaye, a high-end male escort for wealthy women in Los Angeles. The movie explores themes of materialism, sexuality, and corruption against the backdrop of the glamorous Hollywood scene.

Julian lives a luxurious lifestyle, driving expensive sports cars and wearing designer suits. He is good at his job and provides emotional companionship to his clients. However, his life takes a turn when he meets Michelle (played by Lauren Hutton), a beautiful and intelligent politician's wife who hires him for his company. They soon begin a romantic relationship that goes beyond the professional.

One day, Julian's client is found murdered, and he becomes a prime suspect in the case. Detective Sunday (played by Hector Elizondo) starts an investigation and begins to interrogate Julian for information about his clients. Julian is reluctant to reveal anything, both to protect his clients' privacy and to avoid incriminating himself.

As Julian tries to clear his name, he realizes he is being set up by someone who knows about his profession and is trying to implicate him in the murder. Julian's life spirals out of control as he becomes increasingly paranoid and begins to lose his grip on reality.

Throughout the movie, Julian struggles with his identity and his moral compass. He questions the emptiness of his life and the nature of his profession. American Gigolo is a stylish and provocative film that examines the complexities of human relationships and the illusions of luxury and glamour.
