The two strangers are named Joni and Elliot, played by real-life folk musicians Amber Rubarth and Joe Purdy. They meet in Los Angeles airport waiting for a flight to New York, but after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, all flights are canceled. In a moment of desperation, they decide to rent an old van and travel together across the country to reach their destination.

Along the way, they encounter other travelers, including a group of Marines and an Amish couple, who offer assistance and kindness. They also encounter a few challenges, such as car troubles and the difficulty of finding food and accommodations in small towns during a time of crisis.

Throughout their journey, Joni and Elliot perform folk music together, which serves as a means of connecting with others and providing comfort in a dark time. Their music is a blend of traditional folk songs and original compositions, with Rubarth and Purdy performing live onscreen.

The film portrays a hopeful and uplifting message about the resilience of the human spirit and the power of music to bring people together. It was shot on location across the United States and features a soundtrack of original songs by Rubarth and Purdy, as well as classic folk tunes.
