Alone Across the Arctic is a documentary film that follows explorer Adam Shoalts as he embarks on a perilous journey to traverse the Canadian Arctic by canoe and on foot, all by himself. The journey is estimated to be around 4000 km and takes Shoalts through some of the most remote and treacherous areas of the Arctic, including icy rivers, rugged terrains, and hazardous wildlife.

Shoalts, an experienced explorer, sets out to map a new route through the Arctic, which has never been explored before. The journey takes him through the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut, as he paddles along the MacKenzie River and across the Arctic Ocean. Along the way, he faces countless challenges, including storms, whitewater rapids, polar bears, and even the possibility of falling through the sea ice.

As Shoalts pushes himself to the limits of physical and mental endurance, the audience is taken on a breathtaking journey through some of the most captivating and otherworldly landscapes of the Arctic. The film captures the beauty, isolation, and danger of this remote region, as well as the resilience and determination of a lone explorer.

In addition to showcasing Shoalts's incredible journey, Alone Across the Arctic also offers an insight into the history, culture, and ecology of the area. Through interviews with locals and experts, the film provides a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the northern communities, as well as the importance of preserving this fragile ecosystem.

The documentary is directed by Francis Luta and produced by Mark Media, with support from the Canada Media Fund and the Ontario Creates. Alone Across the Arctic premiered at the 2020 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival and has since been widely acclaimed for its stunning cinematography, gripping narrative, and inspiring portrayal of human courage.
