Almost Angels is a 1962 American-Austrian musical film directed by Steve Previn and starring Vincent Winter and Sean Scully. The film tells the story of Tony Fiala (played by Winter), a working-class boy from Vienna who is admitted to Vienna's prestigious Imperial Chapel Choir, better known as the Vienna Boys' Choir.
As an outsider and new member of the choir, Tony is subjected to the traditional initiation rituals, which include hazing and pranks by his fellow choristers, including the head chorister Peter Schmidt (played by Scully). Peter is jealous of Tony's talent and the attention he receives from the choir director and the other boys.
However, despite the initial difficulties, Tony is determined to prove himself and work hard to become a respected and valued member of the choir.
As Peter's voice begins to break, he becomes increasingly frustrated and resentful, as he sees his position as the lead chorister slipping away. But with the help and encouragement of the choir director, Peter discovers a new talent for composing music, and soon becomes the choir's conductor.
Throughout the film, the boys of the Vienna Boys' Choir sing a wide variety of classical compositions, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert.
