All the Pretty Horses is a 2000 Western drama film directed by Billy Bob Thornton and based on the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy. The movie follows the journey of John Grady Cole (Matt Damon), a young man from Texas who loses his family ranch and sets out on a journey to Mexico with his best friend Lacey Rawlins (Henry Thomas) in hopes of finding work as cowboys.

Along the way, they meet a young runaway named Jimmy Blevins (Lucas Black) who joins their group and complicates their journey when he steals a horse. They cross paths with Alejandra (Penélope Cruz), the daughter of a wealthy Mexican rancher, and John Grady falls in love with her, leading to a forbidden romance.

Their journey becomes more dangerous as they encounter corrupt law enforcement, hostile tribes, and reluctant employers. As they face these challenges, the boys mature and learn about the harsh realities of life.

The film received mixed reviews upon its release but was praised for its cinematography, performances, and musical score by Marty Stuart and Kristin Wilkinson. It was also notable for being the first film to premiere at the new Sundance Kabuki theaters in San Francisco. All the Pretty Horses was a box office flop, grossing only $18 million against a $57 million budget, but has since gained a cult following.
