All Star Superman is a 2011 animated superhero film based on the comic book series of the same name by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. The film was directed by Sam Liu and produced by DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation.
The story opens with Superman being exposed to an overdose of solar radiation while attempting to save a spacecraft from being destroyed by the sun. This results in Superman developing new powers and abilities, but also marks the beginning of his slow decline.
Lex Luthor, who hates Superman and blames him for his own failures, takes advantage of the situation by feeding Superman the same radiation in a concentrated form that will eventually kill him. As a result, the Man of Steel only has a limited time left to live.
Superman decides to use his remaining time to tie up all his loose ends, starting with revealing his true identity to Lois Lane. He also wants to leave a lasting legacy behind that will inspire people long after he's gone.
Superman is able to complete most of his goals, including preventing an attempted coup on the planet Krypton, rescuing a group of people from a malfunctioning time machine, and helping a group of endangered animals escape from an artificial paradise.
As Superman's time grows short, he confronts Luthor for one final battle. While Luthor is initially able to defeat Superman, he ultimately fails, and Superman reassures Lois Lane that he will always be with her, in spirit if not in body.
All Star Superman is a heartfelt and poignant superhero film, with an emphasis on the human side of Superman and the emotional connections he shares with those around him.
