The protagonist, Joanna, is a successful romance novelist who is struggling with writer's block. In an effort to help her finish her latest book, her publisher assigns a Navy SEAL, Jack, to serve as her research partner. Joanna is initially resistant to the idea of working with Jack, seeing him as a distraction rather than an asset.
Over time, Joanna and Jack begin to form a bond as they work together on the book. Joanna learns about the realities of life as a Navy SEAL and gains a newfound appreciation for the sacrifices that members of the military make. Jack helps Joanna to see her writing from a new perspective, encouraging her to focus on telling stories that are authentic and meaningful.
As Joanna and Jack grow closer, they begin to realize that their feelings for each other go beyond just a professional partnership. However, Joanna is hesitant to pursue a relationship with Jack, knowing that his job as a Navy SEAL is dangerous and could put their future together in jeopardy.
As Joanna continues to work on her book, she draws upon her experience with Jack to craft a story that is both romantic and authentic. Ultimately, she decides to take a chance on love and pursue a relationship with Jack, despite the risks that it may entail. The movie ends with Joanna finishing her book, happy and in love, with a newfound appreciation for the sacrifices that members of the military make every day.
