All About My Mother is a Spanish drama film directed by Pedro Almodóvar. The movie follows the story of Manuela (played by Cecilia Roth), a single mother who works as a nurse and is raising her son, Esteban (played by Eloy Azorin), alone in Madrid. Esteban is passionate about writing and wants to be a novelist someday. He idolizes an actress named Huma Rojo (played by Marisa Paredes) and asks his mother to take him to see her play in a production of A Streetcar Named Desire.

While trying to get Huma Rojo's autograph after the play, Esteban is struck by a car and dies. The devastated Manuela decides to return to Barcelona, where she met Esteban's father, Lola (played by Toni Canto), a trans woman and a drug addict. Lola doesn't know that he has a son, and Manuela has kept this secret from him for many years. Manuela reunites with old friends and takes a job as a private nurse for a terminally ill actress named Rosa (played by Penélope Cruz).

As Manuela copes with the loss of her son and tries to reconnect with Lola, she discovers secrets and scandals among her old friends. She also helps Rosa address her past mistakes and move towards forgiveness. Through these experiences, Manuela learns about the importance of female relationships, motherhood, and the complexity of gender identity.

All About My Mother won numerous awards, including the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language, and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. The movie showcases Almodóvar's signature style of colorful and bold cinematography, emotional storytelling, and complex characters.
