In Alive or Preferably Dead, Monty and Ted are estranged brothers who are forced to live together for six months in order to inherit their late father's fortune. However, there is a catch - they must stay alive and not kill each other during this time.

The two brothers have very different personalities, with Monty being a suave and sophisticated gentleman while Ted is a rugged cowboy. This leads to many clashes and disagreements between them, with each trying to outdo the other.

As they try to navigate their new living arrangements, they are also pursued by a group of bandits who are after the inheritance money. The brothers must put aside their differences and work together to fend off the bandits and protect their fortune.

Throughout their six months together, Monty and Ted eventually learn to appreciate each other's strengths and weaknesses, and even form a bond as they face danger together. In the end, they successfully protect their inheritance and come out of their experience as true brothers.
