The movie is set 200 years after the events of the previous installment. The Weyland-Yutani Corporation, with the help of United Systems Military, has managed to clone Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) using blood samples recovered from her before her death. The clone, dubbed Ripley 8, is a human-alien hybrid, possessing some of the strengths of the deadly creature.
A group of scientists on board a military spacecraft known as the USM Auriga want to extract the alien queen embryo inside Ripley and create a new breed of alien as a bioweapon. However, something goes wrong in the process, resulting in the creation of a new hybrid alien that not only possesses the strength and agility of the aliens but also has some human attributes, including emotions.
Ripley 8 teams up with a group of smugglers, including Johner (Ron Perlman) and Call (Winona Ryder), to escape the spacecraft and prevent the aliens from reaching Earth. Along the way, they encounter a group of survivors, including a wheelchair-bound scientist named Wren (J. E. Freeman) and a group of renegade aliens who help them in their mission.
The group must fight their way through a series of obstacles and challenges, including battling the hybrid alien and the newly-created alien breed. The climax of the film sees the group fighting the queen alien in the midst of a flooded cargo bay, with Ripley 8 ultimately sacrificing herself to destroy the creature and prevent the aliens from reaching Earth.
Alien Resurrection was directed by French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet and written by Joss Whedon. It received mixed reviews from critics and fans, with some praising the unique additions to the franchise while others criticized the departure from the original tone of the series.
