Deadline of Love: A Typist's Tale

Comedy,Romance  United States of America

Alex & Emma is a romantic comedy film directed by Rob Reiner, with the screenplay written by Jeremy Leven. The film was released in 2003 and stars Luke Wilson, Kate Hudson, Sophie Marceau, and David Paymer.

The movie is set in contemporary Boston, where Alex Sheldon is a struggling writer who has been given an advance of $100,000 to write a novel. The problem is that his publisher demands he finish the manuscript in 30 days, or else he won't be paid, and will be subject to a visit from the mafia, to whom he owes $100,000 as well.

Panicking, Alex hires Emma Dinsmore, a stenographer, to help him meet the deadline. She begins to transcribe his dictation as he speaks the text of his novel aloud. The romantic novel follows the relationship between Alex (referred to as "Adam Shipley" in the book) and Polina Delacroix (Sophie Marceau) in post-revolutionary France. As the two leads fall in love, they face numerous obstacles, leading to a tragic end.

As Alex and Emma work together, they begin to develop feelings for each other. However, Alex's novel takes a different turn as he begins to incorporate his real-life experiences with Emma into the story, changing the trajectory of the romance. This causes conflicts between the two as they struggle to navigate their feelings and the demands of Alex's deadline.

Throughout the film, flashbacks show the characters in their romantic lives during different time periods, underscored by a lighthearted, humorous tone. The ending of the movie has a surprising twist, revealing how much of Adam and Polina's story is real-life inspiration.

Overall, Alex & Emma is a charming, enjoyable romantic comedy that offers a fresh twist on the genre.
