Airport 1975 is the second film in the Airport film series and was released in 1974. The movie centers around a Boeing 747 which is on a flight from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles. When the first officer of the plane suffers a heart attack and the pilot is sucked out of the cockpit, a stewardess named Nancy Pryor (played by Karen Black) takes control of the plane with the assistance of a retired military pilot, Captain Alan Murdock (played by Charlton Heston).
As the plane heads towards Los Angeles, it collides with a small private plane, leaving the passengers and crew of the 747 in imminent danger. The communication systems are knocked out, and the flight is left without any means of contacting the ground. With no one in control of the plane, the passengers and crew become increasingly desperate, and it's up to Nancy Pryor and Captain Murdock to save them.
Airport 1975 features an all-star cast, including Charlton Heston, Karen Black, George Kennedy, Gloria Swanson, and Sid Caesar, among others. The film was a commercial success and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration.
