The Living Doll's Love Affair.

Drama  Japan

Air Doll is a 2009 Japanese drama film directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda. The film tells the story of a life-size "air doll" named Nozomi (played by Bae Doona), who one day gains consciousness and becomes a human with a soul of her own.

As she explores the world around her, Nozomi begins to fall in love with a man named Junichi (played by Arata Iura), who works at a local video store. Despite her inability to age or to experience certain human sensations, Nozomi finds joy in experiencing life and love with Junichi.

Nozomi also starts working at a local laundry store, where she befriends a man named Hideo (played by Itsuji Itao). Hideo is a lonely man who is struggling with feelings of isolation and depression, and Nozomi finds that she is able to connect with him in a way that she can't with other humans.

However, Nozomi's happiness is short-lived. As she and Junichi grow closer, she realizes that her days are numbered and that she may soon return to being an "air doll." As her time in the human world draws to a close, Nozomi must come to terms with her own mortality and the fleeting nature of life.

Throughout the film, director Hirokazu Kore-eda explores themes of loneliness, human connection, and the fragility of life. The movie is an emotional and thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human, and it features powerful performances from Bae Doona and the rest of the cast.
