A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg. The film was released in 2001 and stars Haley Joel Osment as David, Jude Law as Gigolo Joe, and Frances O'Connor as Monica Swinton.
The film is set in a future where technology has advanced to the point where robots are commonly used as servants and companions. A company called Cybertronics has created a new type of robot called a "mecha" that is designed to look and act like a human being.
David is a mecha designed to love, and he is given to a couple whose son is in a coma. Monica, the mother, initially rejects David but gradually comes to love him as her own son. However, when their real son returns home and David is no longer needed, Monica decides to abandon him in the woods.
David goes on a journey to find the Blue Fairy from the story of Pinocchio, believing that if he can become a real boy, Monica will love him again. Along the way, he befriends Gigolo Joe, a mecha designed for pleasure, and the two of them encounter other mechas, humans, and even aliens.
The film explores themes of love, identity, mortality, and the nature of what it means to be human. It received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following and is considered by many to be a modern classic of science fiction cinema.
