Agora is a 2009 Spanish historical drama film directed by Alejandro Amenรกbar. The film is set in Roman Egypt in the 4th century AD and centers around the life of Hypatia (played by Rachel Weisz), a philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer who taught at the Library of Alexandria.

The film begins with Hypatia as a young girl, studying with her father Theon (played by Michael Lonsdale), a renowned philosopher and mathematician. As she grows up, Hypatia becomes increasingly interested in astronomy and mathematics, and begins teaching at the Library of Alexandria, where she becomes a respected scholar.

At the same time, the Christian church is gaining power in Alexandria, and tensions between Christians and pagans are high. Hypatia is a pagan, but she is respected by both Christians and pagans alike for her intellect and knowledge.

Hypatia forms a close relationship with her slave, Davus (played by Max Minghella), who is torn between his loyalty to Hypatia and his desire to gain his freedom by converting to Christianity. Davus becomes involved in the Christian movement, which is gaining in power, and ultimately betrays Hypatia to the Christian mob, leading to her tragic death.

Agora weaves together themes of philosophy, science, religion, and politics, exploring the tensions and conflicts of ancient Alexandria. The film received critical acclaim for its historical accuracy, stunning visuals, and powerful performances.
