Against All Odds is a 1984 romantic thriller film directed by Taylor Hackford and starring Rachel Ward, Jeff Bridges, and James Woods. The film begins with Terry Brogan (Jeff Bridges), a former football player, being hired by an influential attorney named Jake Wise (James Woods) to find his mistress, Jessie Wyler (Rachel Ward), who has fled to Mexico with incriminating documents.
As Terry tracks Jessie down, he realizes that she is being targeted by corrupt officials who will stop at nothing to retrieve the documents. Despite their initial mistrust of each other, Terry and Jessie fall in love and begin a passionate affair.
However, their happiness is short-lived as Jake Wise, obsessed with both the documents and Jessie, follows them to Mexico and kills Terry in a fit of jealousy. Jessie then confronts Wise and manages to reclaim the documents, which she uses to secure her and Terry's freedom.
Against All Odds is a remake of the 1947 film Out of the Past and features a hit soundtrack, including the Academy Award-nominated song "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" by Phil Collins.
